About the OrganizationThis position serves as a catalyst for engaging Japanese and Americans in the business, education, public policy, and arts and culture sectors.
The Society's mission is to further mutual understanding and ongoing engagement between Japanese and Americans through quality programs in arts and culture, education, business, public policy, and international exchange. With a diverse portfolio of offerings and strong community partnerships, the Society positively impacts the North Texas community and fosters friendly relations between cultures.
The membership of the Organization consists of prestigious multinational corporations, professional organizations and service providers, educational institutions, executives, and individuals interested in growing the strong relationship between the USA and Japan.
Key Responsibilities Mission Fulfillment- Ensure the organization remains mission-focused, aligning budget, staff, and priorities with the mission.
- Deliver a balanced portfolio of effective business, cultural, education, and art programs and events, ensuring cultural authenticity, relevance, and quality as well as benefit for our corporate members.
- Continually assessing the staff, committee members and volunteers for the organization, ensuring communication, efficiency, high performance, and teamwork in alignment with the organization's culture, goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement a rolling 3-year strategic plan and annual priorities.
- Actively engage Board Chair, Board members, fostering effective teamwork between the Board and staff.
- Prepare reports and information as requested by the Board, and for the regular Board Meetings, and manage the follow-up of points of action resulting from the Board Meetings and Board Committee Meetings.
- Oversee a communications and engagement plan to raise the Society's profile and publicize its programs.
- Maintain good relationships with corporate members to continue to show benefits of being a member or sponsoring our events and programs.
- Represent the Society in the community, cultivating and maintaining positive relations with stakeholders and other organizations in the region.
- Seek corporate support through sponsor ships and membership. Lead the membership strategy and sales activity to ensure growth and stability for the organization. Collaborate with committee members.
- Oversee fundraising events, including the Sun & Star Legacy Award Dinner and Sun & Star Golf Classic and other events held by the organization.
- Acquire and manage grant funding, through excellent persuasive communication skills and strong stakeholder management.
- Prepare and monitor the annual budget, ensuring compliance with financial reporting and regulations (e.g., preparation of the annual Form 990).
- Administer the Society’s funds according to the approved budget, oversee sound bookkeeping/accounting procedures.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, maintain official records, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Manage employee payroll and accounts receivables and payables.
- Manage official agreements on behalf of the Society and advise the General Counsel when appropriate.
- Manage the productivity and performance of staff, ensuring a highly motivated, effective and engaged staff delivering on the organization's mission.
- Recommend staffing requirements, recruit and select staff, and manage staff resources effectively.
- Implement human resources policies, conduct annual performance reviews, and administer employee benefits.
- Creative and forward-looking strategic thinker, capable of identifying future needs and developing proactive strategies.
- Excellent organizational management skills, ability to coach staff, manage high-performance teams, and achieve strategic objectives.
