Position: Portfolio Company General Manager

As General Manager (GM), you will lead and manage the operations, strategic growth, and business functions of a portfolio company of Exa Capital, Inc. You will be responsible for driving revenue growth, ensuring operational excellence, overseeing product delivery and customer success, and guiding the overall direction of the company to meet strategic goals and market demands. The GM will work closely with the management team of Exa Capital, reporting directly to the Portfolio Manager.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Execution
  • Develop and implement business strategies to grow the portfolio company’s presence in its vertical market.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities (e.g., target segments, geographies, partnerships).
  • Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to revenue, user growth, customer satisfaction, retention, and operational efficiency.
Operational Management
  • Oversee day-to-day operations including product deployment, customer onboarding, support, compliance, and client fulfillment.
  • Ensure high standards of service delivery, quality assurance, and adherence to regulatory requirements relevant to the vertical market.
  • Manage resource allocation—staffing, budgets, workflows—to optimize efficiency and scalability.
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Build, lead, guide and mentor cross-functional teams (sales, customer success, product support, operations, possibly development).
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer focus, and collaboration.
  • Evaluate, attract, retain, and develop talent.
Customer Success & Relationship Management
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience, from onboarding through ongoing use and support.
  • Maintain relationships with key clients and act as escalation point for strategic or critical issues.
  • Drive customer retention and satisfaction, while seeking opportunities for upselling or expansion of services.
Financial Management & P&L Responsibility
  • Own the company’s profit & loss (P&L), budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance.
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, margins; maximize operational efficiency and profitability while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
  • Maintain positive cash flow and practice disciplined cash management to provide capital allocation opportunities.
Product & Market Insight
  • Work closely with product teams (or external vendors) to ensure the portfolio company solution(s) remain competitive, relevant, and aligned with changing regulations and customer needs.
  • Provide feedback from clients and relevant market participants to influence product enhancements, new module development, or service refinements.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
  • Ensure the portfolio company’s service delivery aligns with relevant regulations and standards in staffing, documentation, and audit readiness.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a General Manager, or in a senior executive leadership role preferably in SaaS/software, or healthcare information technology.
  • Strong understanding of software development, technology trends, and market dynamics.
  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth through direct sales, strategic channel relationships and other business development to achieve financial targets.
  • A seasoned business leader and a visionary with proven track record coaching others to deliver on corporate goals.
  • Ability to articulate broad strategic objectives.
  • Outstanding strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in, and understanding of, the healthcare industry is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader, influencing and encouraging others.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
