Salary Range: $40.00 To $52.00 Annually
About the RoleThe Operating Room Circulator Nurse will provide care and support to patients before, during and after surgery. OR Nurses also assist the surgeon and the surgical team in their tasks.
Position’s Essential Responsibilities- Assess, plan, and evaluate the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after a surgical procedure.
- Provide nursing care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures.
- Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients.
- Participate in the care of patients receiving conscious sedation.
- Carry out physician orders.
- Administer prescribed medications, apply dressings, and monitor vital signs.
- Maintain aseptic techniques and actively monitor situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
- Coordinate the operating room with respect to sterility, cleanliness, availability of functioning equipment and supplies.
- Ensure the proper handling of specimens.
- Serve as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
- Ensure that the correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed.
- Respond to life‑saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.
- Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
- May prep operating room for patient/procedure.
- Initiate corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
- Assist in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient.
- Provide accurate care and handling of specimens.
- Observe and enforce strict standards of asepsis.
- Observe, check, and monitor all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly.
- Inventory/count all surgery items both pre‑ and post‑surgery.
- Select and handle instruments and supplies used for the operation.
- Deliver direct surgical care by assisting physicians.
- Provide wound exposure.
- Sutures patients after the surgery.
- Float among various clinical services, when qualified and competent.
- Provide age and culturally appropriate care.
- Orient and mentor new staff members.
- Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program preferred.
- Current Registered Nursing license, in good standing with the State licensing board.
- Current and active CPR certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years OR experience.
- Cognitive skills as related to the position.
