The Staff Nurse/Shift Supervisor – Residential renders professional nursing care and supervises and supports Neuro Rehabilitation Specialists (NRS) in the administration of patient treatment programs at the residential site pursuant to the objectives and policies of the facility. Must possess excellent assessment skills, self‑confidence and be assertive in advocating for good patient care in working independently as a nurse. Must be highly organized and prioritize all nursing and supervisory tasks and procedures in a shift.
Education of patients and staff is a vital component of this position. Work is full time overnights with work during the week and some weekends. Some on‑call work is required. Work is performed at the residential site. The residential site may be a home and/or an apartment complex which may have two stories; if two stories, the top story is accessible by one flight of stairs.
- Conduct rounds of patient apartments to monitor, assist, offer advice, and handle any questions concerning patient programs or behavior. Reviews documentation and provides feedback and training to staff as needed. Monitors work assignments and makes changes as necessary. Requires walking, climbing stairs repeatedly, telephone use, writing, charting, computer use and verbal or written communication.
- Perform nursing techniques for the comfort and well‑being of the patient. In coordination with other nursing staff, supervise, assist with and delegate the distribution of medications to the appropriate residence of each patient. Administer or supervise the administration of prescribed medications and treatments. Perform medication counts of controlled medications each shift. Take vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and blood pressure regularly to detect deviations from normal and monitor the medical progress of patients, double‑check and follow physician’s orders and individual nursing care plans, including assisting patients with daily routines, catheter irrigating and assisting with respiratory treatments.
Requires basic computer skills to complete conference reports, make charting entries, communicate openly and clearly with associated staff at the residential site, formulate specific programs to outline particular patients needs in a format comprehended and utilized by the residential and clinic staff. - Observe, record and report medical progress made to Nursing Department, residential supervisory staff, Residential Treatment Coordinators, Case Managers, Director of Rehabilitation and patients’ families if indicated. Maintain medical records for each patient with nursing observations and interventions documented.
- Identify patient family concerns and address or refer the concerns as required. Requires ability to handle stressful situations in a professional and effective manner, ability to make decisions and communicate effectively.
- Educational Background
:
Current RN or LVN licensure in state employed is required. - Work Experience
:
Experience in general rehabilitation is preferred. Must maintain CPR, First Aid, and Pro‑ACT Certifications. Experience in which potential administrative and supervisory competence has been demonstrated is required. Clear driving record.
