Pay Grade: 831 (Minimum $285.01/day) Work Days: 226
Primary PurposeResponsible for assisting with developing, facilitating, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive plans to provide educational certifications, training and clinical support to the health services program. Involved in the development and implementation of training for licensed and unlicensed staff responsible for students who require specialized care during the school day.
Qualifications- Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Associates Degree or nursing diploma from an accredited program
- A valid registered license with the appropriate governing body of applicant's degree
- Advanced knowledge of diabetes and skills related to the special education student, preferred
- Vision, Hearing, Scoliosis, Acanthosis Nigricans and CPR/AED Instructor certification
- Familiar with Texas Education Laws and School Health Practices, Texas Nursing Practice Act, National Association of School Nurses' Standards of Nursing Practice, and PISD School Health policies, protocols and procedures
- Knowledge of national, state and local student health requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
- Knowledge of teaching techniques, experience in teaching groups (preferred)
- Flexibility to work within school framework, policies and guidelines
- Minimum of seven years' nurse experience
- Combined nursing experience, including five years as a school nurse, 2 years pediatric homecare or special education related experience and clinical experience in a health related field or experience as a clinical educator, manager, pediatric nurse practitioner or instructor
- Assist with implementing and evaluating orientation programs for school nurse's/substitute nurses and continuing education programs, utilizing adult learning theory, appropriate teaching and evaluation modalities/methods
- Provide vision, hearing, scoliosis, Acanthosis Nigricans and CPR/AED training to appropriate district staff
- Assist the Director for district health in providing support to the Collin County Adventure Camp program for PISD students, including camp staff and PISD support staff
- On-site visits and/or staffing may be included, as assigned by supervisor
- Develop, implement, teach and evaluate diabetic education, materials, and presentations for unlicensed diabetic care assistants (UDCA's)
- Plan and prepare curriculum content and course outlines in conformance with the Health and Safety Code chapter 168 and FFAG (Legal); revise accordingly to new laws
- Maintain and modify diabetic educational programs and staff educational materials; recommend revisions, as appropriate and schedule training sessions for UDCA's in collaboration with individual school principals and nurses
- Serve as the diabetic health consultant and expert resource person to educate and empower the nursing staff with appropriate materials that will support their individual diabetic care, health counseling and guidance to students and parents and assist the individual sites in maintaining the required diabetic departmental records, reports, and statistics, as appropriate
- Serve all aspects of clinical practice for the school nurse role
- Assist with developing and organizing PDH days as well as facilitating a variety of flexible learning options for nursing and Health Services staff
- Review and recommend revisions to all clinical procedures according to best standards of practice
- Assist with SHARS billing
- Assist with flu vaccine initiative
- Participate and support the clinical training of non-licensed personnel responsible for the care of students requiring specialized skills
- Assist all aspects of the ARD process and IHP development as assigned by coordinator for district health
- Assist all aspects of the private duty nurse oversight as assigned
- Staff campus clinics when needed, as assigned by supervisor
- Support new nurses in the clinic as needed
- Assist with clinic assessments
- Collaborate with principals and director for district health regarding teaching needs of the individual school sites and departments including Pasar, transportation, special education and summer school
- Act as resource to the School Health Advisory Council to promote student health and reduce childhood obesity in the areas of PISD wellness initiatives for children and employees
- Maintain liaison with administration and departmental representatives regarding workshops, educational programs and related activities, acting as additional resource person to the food and nutritional services (FANS), in their role of planning school meals and snacks
- Function as an AHA Faculty
- Oversee CPR/AED program as assigned
- Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from superiors
