About the role:The Quality Assurance Engineer Lead will lead a small team of quality engineers and support manufacturing operations in a rack production facility involving sheet metal forming, bending, punching, welding, washing, and powder coating. This role ensures that all products meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements while driving continuous improvement in processes and defect reduction.
Key responsibilities- Sheet Metal Fabrication
- Develop and maintain inspection standards for forming, bending, and punching operations.
- Monitor and analyze process capability (SPC, Cp/Cpk) for critical dimensions.
- Welding Quality
- Implement and maintain weld inspection processes (visual, dimensional, destructive, NDT where required).
- Investigate and resolve weld quality issues such as porosity, undercut, and alignment.
- Washing & Pretreatment
- Ensure chemical wash and surface prep meet cleanliness and adhesion requirements.
- Monitor water quality, pH, and chemical balance for consistent coating performance.
- Powder Coating
- Conduct coating inspections using dry film thickness gauges, adhesion tests, and visual evaluations.
- Identify and resolve coating defects such as orange peel, poor adhesion, pinholes, and color mismatch.
- General Quality Engineering
- Develop and maintain quality documentation:
Control Plans, FMEAs, PPAP, and inspection plans. - Lead root cause analysis and corrective action using 8D, 5-Why, and other problem-solving tools.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 or equivalent standards.
- 5+ years of quality engineering experience in sheet metal fabrication or similar manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of supervisory/lead experience in training and managing day-to-day operations for a staff of two to three.
- Hands‑on experience with welding inspection and powder coating quality control
. - Familiarity with statistical analysis, SPC, and gage R&R studies
. - Strong knowledge of root cause and corrective action methodologies
. - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Proficiency in GD&T, blueprint reading, and metrology tools
. - Experience with ISO 9001 QMS
; IATF 16949 experience a plus. - Certification (CQE, CWI, Six Sigma Green Belt) preferred but not required.

The base salary range for this full‑time position is $105,000- $115,000 per year. Actual pay will depend on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, and business needs. This role may also be eligible for incentive pay, subject to the terms of the applicable plan. Eligible employees receive company‑provided benefits in accordance with plan terms and eligibility requirements.
