Job Description

The Director of National Sales is responsible for directing, coordinating, training and supervising the Sales and Catering Managers and the Sales Administrator in all sales-related activities, including direct sales efforts, follow-up, and proper sales administration. He/she is also responsible for growing existing accounts and generating new business to ensure that rooms revenue and catering revenue meet or exceed budget in order to maximize revenue and profits and to improve the hotel's performance in the marketplace.

Exempt associates are expected to work as much of each workday as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of progressive hotel sales experience preferred; or a 4-year college degree and at least 3 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Prior Director of Sales or National Sales experience selling major downtown markets is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the applicable state.
  • Must possess highly developed verbal & written communication skills to frequently negotiate, convince, sell and influence other managerial personnel, hotel guest(s) and/or corporate clients.
  • Must have thorough experience with professional selling skills: opening, probing, supporting, closing.
  • Shows strong analytical skills and strategic vision in establishing appropriate sales deployment.
  • Must be proficient in general computer knowledge especially Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to work independently and simultaneously manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and manage people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds while solving complex problems and creating a productive sales team.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the sales/marketing/hospitality profession.
  • Must work well in stressful, high pressure situations; maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Aimbridge Hospitality standards as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel, but which will include a mandatory daily A  meeting.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with Aimbridge hospitality dress code and wearing a name tag when working (per brand standards).
  • Comply at all times with Aimbridge Hospitality standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Attend monthly all-employee meetings and any other functions required by management.
  • Attend weekly staff meeting and provide training on a rotational basis, using steps to effective training according to Aimbridge Hospitality standards.
  • Supervise, administer and ensure timely completion of all activities in the Sales Department.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel, including Food and Beverage, Front Office and Reservations.
  • Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies, and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team.
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies.
  • Comply with certification requirements as applicable for position to include:
    Food Handlers, Alcohol Awareness, CPR and First Aid.
  • Comply with attainment of individual goals.
  • Be responsible for developing Sales and Catering managers, including sign-off on all competencies and assist in his/her placement.
  • Coordinate group and transient bookings to maximize profits.
  • Operate within established sales expense budget.
