As a Crew Leader, you will be responsible for maintaining the Signal Lights and their functionalities in the City of Plano. May have opportunities for overtime.

Details

The Public Works Crew Leader – Signals supports the maintenance of signal lights and related infrastructure within the Signal Department.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the work activities of assigned maintenance staff engaged in maintaining the City’s infrastructure.
  • Maintain and complete daily work orders through asset management and work order software.
  • Provide communication and job information to customers and Supervisors.
  • Ensure work sites are safe and secured in accordance with Public Works Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety requirements.
  • Operate equipment such as backhoes, trucks, street sweepers, loaders, saws, mixers, pumps, grinders, etc.
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment and tools to ensure they are safe, maintained, fueled, and ready for use.
  • Address and resolve citizen complaints with clear communication and accurate information sharing.
  • Train subordinate personnel, including Equipment Operators and Maintenance Workers.
  • Complete locate requests for marking infrastructure to prevent damage during third-party construction activities.
  • Evaluate citizen requests to determine next steps for prioritization of work (pavement, sidewalks, alleys, signs, drainage, signals, etc.).
  • Tree trimming and removal to maintain right-of-way visibility.
  • Attend work with regular and consistent attendance as essential.
  • Evaluate, repair, and replace traffic control devices including signs, markings, and signalized intersection equipment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in installation, repair and maintenance of signal equipment.
  • Class C Driver's License.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I preferred.
  • Clear communication skills (verbal and written); safety practices; use of hand and power tools; maintenance of tools and equipment; traffic control and barricade placement.
  • Ability to use basic functions of an iPad.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures; operation, maintenance, and repair of city infrastructure; traffic control; markings; and related equipment.
  • Experience with reading maps, charts, and schematics; leadership and guidance for staff; basic mathematical calculations.
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience:

    Three (3) years in relevant infrastructure maintenance; lead experience preferred. May substitute other work experience for education/experience requirements.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License prior to employment; IMSA Certification Level I and II preferred.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, CJIS background check (where applicable), and social security verification.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and work around buildings, streets, and facilities. Requires strength, stamina, and mobility for light to medium physical work; able to work in confined spaces and around machines; able to operate tools and equipment; good vision and hearing. May require lifting up to 75 pounds with proper equipment. Work may include exposure to loud noise, dust, extreme temperatures, weather, road hazards, and hazardous substances.

Public Works employees are considered essential personnel and may work extended hours, holidays, and weekends as needed.
