The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Public Works Maintenance Worker I, Public Works Maintenance Worker II or Public Works Maintenance Worker III classification. The hourly rate for the Public Works Maintenance Worker I is $18.81 per hour; for the Public Works Maintenance Worker II is $19.75 per hour; and for the Public Works Maintenance Worker III is $20.74.

Public Works Maintenance Worker ISummary of Duties
Under close supervision, the Public Works Maintenance Worker performs light to heavy manual labor to repair and maintain City of Plano infrastructure within streets, alleys, easements and Rights of Way.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the entry-level classification in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision.
General Job Functions
- Repairs and maintains City infrastructure in relation to streets, alley, sidewalks, curbs and storm drains and miscellaneous repairs as required.
- Operates various equipment to include vibratory compactor, mud jack machine, crack sealer, jackhammer, mortar mixer, weed‑eaters, chain saws, grinder, shovel, and related power and hand tools.
- Assists in debris removal from rights‑of‑way and drainage ways.
- Performs temporary street repairs such as pothole repair.
- Assists with setting up forms for curb pours, sidewalks and street repairs.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions
The incumbent is responsible for inspecting assigned equipment, identifying potential safety hazards and the use of safe work methods and safety equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Safety practices and procedures; proper and efficient use of hand and power tools; methods of tool and equipment maintenance; traffic control and barricade placement.
Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating light equipment; performing routine construction and repair work; completing basic mathematical calculations and measurements.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of previous maintenance or construction experience preferred.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Must have a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license upon employment.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.

Under regular supervision, the Public Works Maintenance Worker performs light to heavy manual labor to repair and maintain City of Plano infrastructure including water lines, sewer lines, streets, sidewalks and alleys with the City’s easements and Rights of Way.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the mid-level classification in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision.
