Public Works Maintenance Worker II or III – Utility Compliance

Location: Parkway Service Center
Type: Full‑Time, Regular

Salary: $19.75 – $23.70 per hour (Public Works Maintenance Worker II); $20.74 – $23.70 per hour (Public Works Maintenance Worker III)

Hours:

6:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. Overtime opportunities for trained employees. After a six‑month probation and proper training, an on‑call rotation is required.

Valid CDL holders may receive a better offer. CDL training is available.

Job Details:
The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Public Works Maintenance Worker II or III classification. The role offers hands‑on experience in the field, moderate physical labor, weather‑independent tasks, and full training. Cross‑train with other departments and employees may be trained for a licensed CDL driver.

Job Functions – Public Works Maintenance Worker II

General

Job Functions:

  • Assist in preparing work areas; secure job sites with traffic control devices (cones, barricades, warning signs)
  • Prepare tools, materials, equipment; maintain cleanliness and inspection of tools and trucks
  • Comply with all written city policies and procedures
  • Use basic personal protective equipment
  • Drive to and from work locations as assigned
  • Inspect job sites and comply with safety procedures
  • Work in confined spaces as needed
  • Follow guidance of crew leader to set up proper trench shoring
  • Use tools for installation of new water mains, sewer mains, service connections, and manholes
  • Operate dead‑end blow‑off valves or flushing to maintain water quality
  • Assist locating water main and service line leaks
  • Serve on call
  • Lift, move, and position equipment for jet truck operations
  • Locate assets in CMMS (Cartegraph)
  • Respond to citizen concerns and complaints

General

Job Functions:

  • Use basic personal protective equipment
  • Drive to and from work locations as assigned
  • All functions from Public Works Maintenance Worker II
  • Proficient in using iPad and department’s cloud‑based asset management system
  • Clear sewer stoppages with limited supervision
  • Delineate city versus private infrastructure
  • Trench shoring with limited supervision
  • Train other Maintenance Workers on field work and safety
  • Basic understanding of operation of maintenance equipment (jet trucks, vacuum trucks, CCTV equipment)
  • Utility Compliance: jet trucks, vacuum trucks, CCTV equipment
  • Utility Operations: breakers, backhoes, excavators, tractor loaders, front‑end loaders
  • Maintain regular attendance on assigned schedule

Marginal Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned
Typical Decisions

The incumbent inspects assigned equipment, identifies potential safety hazards, and uses safe work methods and safety equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of: safety practices, proper use of hand and power tools, tool maintenance, traffic control, barricade placement
  • Skill in: clear verbal and written communication, operating light equipment, routine construction and repair work, basic math and measurements
  • Education: high school diploma or GED equivalent
