Job Description

Public Works Maintenance Worker I, II or III – Signals

The City of Plano is seeking innovative, forward‑thinking individuals to join our Signal Department as a Public Works Maintenance Worker. The role supports the crew leader in daily traffic signal maintenance throughout the City, ensuring safe and efficient travel for residents. This hands‑on position offers the opportunity to work outdoors, develop technical and electrical skills, and contribute to high‑visibility infrastructure that impacts the community every day.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting signal and street‑light maintenance using basic hand tools.
  • Assisting with pulling and installing signal cable and wiring connections in signal poles and streetlights under supervision, with voltages up to 480 volts.
  • Operating bucket equipment from the ground and within the bucket.
  • Collecting field data and maintaining daily work records.

Schedule:

Four (4) – 10‑hour shifts, either Monday‑Thursday 6:30 am–5:00 pm or Tuesday‑Friday 6:30 am–5:00 pm, depending on crew assignment.

Salary and Classification

Hourly rate ranges from $18.81 (Maintenance Worker I) to $26.34 (Maintenance Worker III) depending on classification.
