The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Public Works Maintenance Worker I, II or III classification. The City of Plano values teamwork and service to the community and offers a variedad of benefits.
Salary
The hourly rate is:
- Maintenance Worker I: $18.81 per hour
- Maintenance Worker II: $19.75 per hour
- Maintenance Worker III: $20.74 per hour
Role responsibilities include repairing streets and sidewalks, maintaining storm drains and debris clearance, and working with tools and equipment to ensure the safety and functionality of public spaces. This role involves hands-on work, preparation and securing of job sites, and collaboration with a crew to support City operations.
Responsibilities- Assist in preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up traffic control devices (cones, barricades, warning signs).
- Prepare tools, materials, and equipment; clean, inspect, and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Comply with City policies and procedures; use basic personal protective equipment correctly.
- Drive to and from work locations as assigned.
- Repair and maintain City infrastructure related to streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, storm drains, and related components.
- Operate equipment such as vibratory compactors, crack sealers, jackhammers, mortars, weed-eaters, chainsaws, grinders, and related tools.
- Assist in debris removal from rights-of-way and drainage areas.
- Perform temporary street repairs and assist with curb pours and sidewalk/street repairs.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance as part of the assigned schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge: Safety practices; proper use of hand and power tools; maintenance methods; traffic control and barricade placement.
- Skill: Clear communication; operating light equipment; basic construction and repair tasks; basic math and measurements.
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience: One year of maintenance or construction experience preferred. Acceptable substitutes apply for education/experience requirements.
- Licenses: Valid Texas Class C driver’s license upon employment.
- Conditions of Employment: Drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, CJIS background check (for some positions), and social security number verification.
Summary: Under regular supervision, performs maintenance to repair City infrastructure including water lines, sewer lines, streets, sidewalks and alleys. This mid-level role follows routine procedures and may perform more complex duties than Level I.
General Functions:
- All functions of Maintenance Worker I.
- Operate additional equipment (e.g., tandem dump trucks, rollers, forklifts, pumps) and supervise/assist with curb pours and forms.
- Monitor equipment operation to protect utilities and safety; assist with project planning and forms setup.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge: Safety, tool use, maintenance, traffic control.
- Skill: Clear communication; basic math; equipment operation.
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience: One year required; two years preferred. Substitutions allowed.
- Licenses: Texas Class A CDL and Work Zone Safety Certification preferred.
Summary: Advanced classification; plans methods, works under minimal supervision, and may supervise others. Responsibilities include advanced maintenance tasks and training.
General Functions:
- All functions of Level II.
- Operate advanced equipment; pour and finish concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and streets.
- Inspect work for quality and safety; respond to emergency calls as needed; train other workers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge: Safety, tool use, maintenance, traffic control.
- Skill: Clear communication; operating heavy equipment; project planning.
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience: Three years preferred; two years required. Substitutions allowed.
- Licenses: Texas Class A CDL and Work Zone Safety Certification.
