Regular. Work hours can be 4‑day 10‑hour schedule (6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) or 5‑day 8‑hour schedule (6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.).

Salary

$26.47–$39.71 per hour.

Job Overview

The City of Plano’s Public Works Department is looking for skilled and dependable Public Works Crew Leaders to join our Utility Operations team. These positions play a hands‑on leadership role in maintaining and repairing the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems that serve our businesses and nearly 300,000 residents. Working under the direction of supervisors, these positions provide daily guidance to field staff, ensure safe work‑site practices, and operate a variety of equipment to complete essential maintenance and repair work.

The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on experience in utility construction or maintenance, a commitment to safety, and strong leadership skills to help train and guide team members in the field. Public Works Crew Leader I

Summary of Duties
:
Under supervision, the Crew Leader leads the work activities of assigned staff and engages in the operations, maintenance, and repair of water and sanitary sewer lines and systems.

Distinguishing Characteristics
:
Entry‑level classification; works under indirect supervision; uses initiative and resourcefulness; confers with supervisors on unusual matters.

Examples of Essential Job Functions
  • Lead the work activities of assigned maintenance staff engaged in maintaining the City’s infrastructure.
  • Maintain and complete daily work orders through asset management and work order software.
  • Provide communication and job information to customers and supervisors.
  • Ensure work sites are safe and appropriately secured in accordance with Public Works Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure own and subordinates’ proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with all job‑site safety requirements.
  • Operate a backhoe, tandem dump truck, loader, air hammer, chain saw, mortar mixer, pump, or other related tools and equipment.
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure they are safe, clean, maintained, fueled, and ready for use at all times.
  • Address and resolve citizen complaints in a respectful and courteous manner through clear communication and accurate information sharing.
  • Participate in training subordinate personnel, including Equipment Operators and Maintenance Workers.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule.
Marginal Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
