Utility Operator - Waste Water

Overview

This position will perform various manual tasks and follow directions given by the immediate supervisor during the construction, repair, and maintenance of the City’s water, wastewater, and storm drain infrastructure. The role requires heavy manual labor and the individual will be on‑call 24 hours per day, including weekends and holidays.

• Installation, maintenance, and repairs of water, wastewater, and storm drain infrastructure.
• Operate safely all types of equipment.
• Ensure preventative maintenance and repairs are performed on all equipment.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Valid Texas Driver license; must obtain Class D Water license within one year.
• Ability to safely use a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
• Read and write; understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Learn and retain knowledge.
• Transport self between sites; drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and from work-sites.
• Work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing, and lifting.
• Use chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards.
• Operate in confined spaces, trenches, and streets with extreme hazards.
• Perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water, wastewater, and mud.
• Walk on slippery, loose, uneven, and sloped surfaces.
