Bus Operations Facility is located at 1101 Teasley Lane, Denton, TX

Purpose of Job

Mechanics perform varying levels of repairs and preventive maintenance activities for the fleet. Evaluate, troubleshoot, analyze, and test transit vehicle systems to determine the nature and extent of defects. Assist with repairs and replacement of transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems and controls, and hydraulic systems.

Mechanic II will also replace transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems and controls, HVAC, airbrakes and hydraulic systems.

Mechanic III will also overhaul heavy equipment systems such as engines, transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems and controls, HVAC, airbrakes and hydraulic systems.

Essential Functions
  • Assist higher level mechanic with repairs for the fleet, including, but not limited to: replacing and repairing transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems and controls, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventative and periodic maintenance inspections; diagnose and ensure the timely and effective repair of problems identified during inspections.
  • Advise supervisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time frame.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, analyze, and test transit vehicle systems to determine the nature and extent of defects.
  • Ensure that all vehicle condition reports are accurate and properly addressed.
  • Assist in maintaining all maintenance records (e.g., work orders) in an “inspection ready” state at all times; and ensure repair orders are neat and accurate.
  • Track all repairs in progress to ensure the timely and correct repair of vehicles for return to operations; and know the maintenance status of all assigned vehicles at all times.
  • Perform road calls as needed to ensure operational efficiency.

Mechanic II also includes:

  • Perform repairs for the fleet, including, but not limited to, replacing and repairing transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems and controls, HVAC, airbrakes, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist lower level mechanics and may provide training as assigned.

Mechanic III also includes:

  • Perform repairs for the fleet, including, but not limited to: replacing, repairing, and overhauling heavy equipment systems such as engines, transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems and controls, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist and train lower level mechanics as assigned.

Experience & Education
  • Must be 21 years of age or older. High School Diploma, GED or technical training & certification related to maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Texas Class B CDL License with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements. Must have and maintain a clean driving record. Must have their own tools.
  • Mechanic I – Two to three years of experience working as a mechanic in transit or very similar environment. Technical training in field from vocational school highly desired.
