POSITION SUMMARY
With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non‑diesel equipment and trucks including chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train and steering systems. The Technician may also perform basic tire work such as replacement, tire rotation and tread depth checks.
PRINCIPALRESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a working knowledge of and moderate skill proficiency in vehicle components and systems, performing preventative and repair maintenance functions onsite and on the road.
- Repair and maintain chassis components.
- Maintain refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems, air and hydraulic braking systems.
- Perform light engine repair and maintenance.
- Maintain suspension, drivetrain and steering systems.
- Maintain heating and air conditioning systems.
- Perform line maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Provide road service safely when necessary to return equipment to operation efficiently.
- Identify malfunctions using a variety of electronic diagnostic tools.
- Complete applicable company training programs.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS- Ability to diagnose multi‑system issues and consistently demonstrate technical expertise.
- Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.
- Prior experience with or knowledge of maintenance work on classes 1‑5 light/medium duty and heavy‑duty class 7‑8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (T1‑T8) are a plus but not required.
- Commercial Driver’s License is a plus but not required.
- 3‑5 years of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of gasoline and diesel‑powered equipment diagnosis and repair, or graduation from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in some of the following systems: suspensions and steering; general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, diesel emissions.
