Mainframe Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Technical Lead with strong expertise in legacy modernization and enterprise mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep hands‑on experience with PL/I, IMS DB, DB2, COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, Control‑M, and z/OS environments, along with a strong background in production support, application development, and technical leadership. Experience with in the Property & Casualty Insurance domain is highly preferred.

This candidate must be able to work onsite in Plano, TX or San Antonio, TX

• Lead end-to-end delivery of mainframe application development, enhancements, and support initiatives.
• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance applications using PL/I, IMS DB, COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and related technologies.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to development teams.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and define technical solutions.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards, best practices, and quality guidelines.
• Analyze and troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Support application performance tuning, optimization, and stability improvements.
• Coordinate activities across onshore and offshore teams to ensure timely delivery.
• Participate in Agile/SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, and release planning.
• Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, deployments, and post‑release activities.
• Contribute to modernization initiatives, including API integration and z/OS Connect implementations.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system design documents, and operational procedures.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Mainframe application development and support.
• Proven experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and application maintenance processes.
• Experience working in Agile and/or SAFe environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

• Experience with z/OS Connect.
• Exposure to API integration and mainframe modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Property Insurance and Auto Insurance business processes.
• Experience leading distributed onshore/offshore development teams.
• Knowledge of cloud integration strategies and hybrid architectures.
• Prior experience working in large‑scale enterprise insurance environments.
• Experience with Dev Ops and automated deployment processes for mainframe applications.
