- Designs and conducts a beginner one‑week sports program for pre‑teens and teenaged children.
- Organizes, instructs, and supervises children while they engage in group and individual sports activities.
- Transports sports campers to and from sports facilities.
- Contacts parents via phone and email related to camp schedule and other requirements.
- Maintains effective discipline and safety procedures during activities and while transporting children in City vehicles to and from program activities.
- Responsible for ordering and maintenance of necessary equipment.
- Responsible for lesson plans, attendance forms and any other required paperwork.
- Monitors daily program expenses and prepares expense reports, managing forms and money related to camp activities.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Sports Camp Coordinators must create a dynamic weekly curriculum, address parent concerns, lead staff and campers, and provide an exciting, fun experience for kids. You do not need to excel at sports, crafts, or games—only a desire to be part of the camp experience.
Summary of DutiesThe Sports Camp Coordinator engages and supervises groups of children ages 10‑16 years in a variety of sports activities, ensuring a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience. Responsibilities include lesson planning, attendance, paperwork, discipline, safety procedures, and transportation.

The incumbent enforces policies, procedures, and safety rules at assigned sites.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of: recreational and athletic activities; basic arts and crafts; basic creative dramatic procedures; outdoor recreation practices and techniques when assigned to Outdoor Program.
Skill in: working with children ages 10‑16 and their parents; leading sports activities; using MS Word and email; providing first aid and emotional support; guiding interpersonal relationships; operating a commercial van (10‑12 passengers); handling cash and receipts; coordinating use of facilities; supervising, motivating, and maintaining relationships with staff; communicating effectively with all stakeholders.
EducationCompletion of three years of college level courses in recreation, education or related field; minimum age 21.
ExperienceTwo summers of experience in a day camp setting working with children ages 10 to 16.
Any work‑related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and CertificationsCPR and first aid certifications required. Texas Class C driver’s license required (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
