• Assist the Water Safety Instructor with teaching swimming and diving lessons and promoting safety.
• Participate in lesson preparation and take class attendance.
• Maintain general maintenance and housekeeping in the aquatic facility.
• Ensure the safety of class participants and notify appropriate staff of safety concerns or issues.
• Respond to questions regarding swimming lessons.
• Attend assigned work schedule regularly and consistently.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of current swimming techniques, CPR, and first aid.
• Skill in demonstrating and teaching swimming, working tactfully with the public, and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
• No formal education required; must be at least fourteen (14) years of age.
• Any work‑related experience that demonstrates acceptable proficiency in the above qualifications is an acceptable substitute.
• Preferred: completion of Plano’s Learn‑to‑Swim Assistant course.

American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety (preferred).

• Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings), and social security number verification.

The position requires mobility to work in and around City pools and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Working conditions include frequent walking, exposure to loud noise, hot temperatures, chemical hazards, and hazardous physical substances.
