Public Works Equipment Operator or Senior – Utility Operations
City of Plano – Parkway Service Center, Full‑time, Regular. Hourly Salary Range: $25.21 – $37.82.
Job OverviewWe are searching for skilled Public Works Equipment Operators and Senior Operators who will operate specialized equipment to install, repair, and maintain essential utility infrastructure. Candidates may be offered either the Equipment Operator or Senior Equipment Operator classification based on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in routine construction, repair, and maintenance tasks, including repairing City streets, sidewalks, water mains, taps, valves, and fire hydrants.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain vehicles and equipment; complete pre‑trip inspection sheets.
- Calculate materials required for tasks.
- Operate traffic control devices around work sites and set up job sites securely.
- Cull trees, brush, debris, and trash from streets, right‑of‑ways, and storm drains.
- Assist in training and leading work activities of others (Senior operators only).
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance and adhere to work schedules.
Work requires mobility to operate vehicles, use hand and power tools, lift up to 75 pounds, and work in confined spaces and outdoors under varying weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and hazards is possible.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience may qualify as substitute.
- Two (2) years of construction experience with light equipment operation (Operator) or heavy equipment operation (Senior).
- Texas Class A commercial driver’s license. Additional certifications may be required.
- Knowledge of equipment operation/maintenance, safety policies, and OSHA regulations.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to pass drug test, driver license check, criminal background check, and social security verification.
- Flexible scheduling: 4 × 10‑hour days or 5 × 8‑hour days; overtime available.
- $175 annual boot allowance and $175 annual jean allowance (post‑probation).
