What you’ll be doingThe Project Accountant is responsible for managing financial aspects of assigned projects, ensuring accuracy in cost tracking, budgeting, billing, and reporting. This role acts as a liaison between the finance and project management teams, ensuring compliance with financial policies and the timely completion of accounting tasks related to projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and skilled in project-based financial management.
Responsibilities- Monitor and report on financial performance of individual projects from initiation to closeout.
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
- Review and process project-related invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor pay applications.
- Track labor hours, materials, and overhead costs against budgets.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing to clients in accordance with contract terms.
- Collaborate with project managers to analyze cost variances and forecast future expenses.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes related to project accounting.
- Reconcile project-related general ledger accounts.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, contracts, and applicable regulations.
- Assist with audits, client reporting, and documentation requests.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in accounting or project accounting, preferably in a project-driven environment (e.g., construction, engineering, consulting).
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Deltek, Sage, Viewpoint, or other ERP systems).
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with project management tools.
- Understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
