Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida (CCLA) is a nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal services to low‑income residents of Broward County. Established in 2003, CCLA’s mission is to deliver equal justice through quality legal aid and advocacy.
Position overviewThe Accounting & Grants Manager is responsible for overseeing financial operations and grant administration, ensuring accurate accounting, strong internal controls, compliant grant management, and timely financial reporting.
Key responsibilities- Grant and sub‑grant administration & compliance
- Manage grant compliance, reporting deadlines, documentation, and files.
- Assist CFO with proposal budgets, forecasts, recaps, and reports.
- Prepare and submit grant invoices, journal entries, and financial reports.
- Monitor grant expenditures, reconcile related GL accounts, and allocate costs to funding sources.
- Maintain grant tracking databases and generate performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and private grant requirements.
- Accounting & financial management
- Review general ledger activity for accuracy and proper coding.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes.
- Perform reconciliations for bank, trust, AR, AP, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to comply with GAAP and grantor regulations.
- Prepare audit schedules, gather documentation, and serve as liaison during audits.
- Manage contract billing and align expenditures with approved budgets.
- Support preparation of financial statements, management reports, and budget analyses.
- Additional responsibilities
- Become familiar with case management, payroll, and time‑keeping systems.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting or grant duties as assigned.
- Maintain accurate timekeeping.
- Assist with procedures and policies in accounting, grants, and compliance.
- Attend trainings, develop expertise, and provide staff training on compliance and financial procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by CFO or leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit accounting, grant financial management, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit fund accounting, and multi‑grant environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software systems.
- Experience with audits, financial reconciliations, and reporting.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in reporting and administration.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple grants and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative approach with staff, funding agencies, auditors, and partners.
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethical judgment, and financial integrity.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage competing deadlines, and work independently.
- Must pass a background check before employment.
