Overview

Position Title:

Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Software Engineering (Regular, 9-month). The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville is seeking one tenure-track Assistant Professor in Software Engineering. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ABET accreditation underpins our Software Engineering program. The primary duties include teaching undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Software Engineering using modern and inclusive pedagogy. Faculty members are also expected to participate in curriculum development, academic assessment, undergraduate research and scholarly activities, as well as university/community service. Candidates with expertise in Computer Science and Software Engineering, as well as related computing fields, will be considered.

Review of candidates will begin on November 8, 2025. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled. The anticipated start date is Spring or Fall 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of software engineering, computer science, and/or cybersecurity courses.
  • Engage in appropriate professional development activities.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • At least one semester of college-level teaching experience as an instructor or teaching assistant.
  • Ability to teach a variety of software engineering, computer science, or cybersecurity courses.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education and modern pedagogy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Department and College Context

The CSSE department currently has seven full-time faculty members and four lecturers, offering B.S. degrees in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Software Engineering. We also offer an online M.S. in Cybersecurity and an online B.S. in Applied Computing in collaboration with sister UW institutions. Our program includes ABET accreditation and is among the larger software engineering programs in Wisconsin.

The department is housed in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science (EMS), which serves 2,534 undergraduate and 73 graduate students.
