Philosophy Lecturer

The Department of Humanities at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville is seeking engaged and qualified instructors to join our instructional team in Philosophy. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about teaching and want to support student learning in an interdisciplinary environment.

We are currently seeking candidates to teach in-person undergraduate Philosophy courses on the Platteville campus, including Introduction to Philosophy. These courses support the department's general education and interdisciplinary mission. This position requires in-person instruction; remote or hybrid teaching arrangements are not available.

In addition to current instructional needs, this posting establishes a pool of qualified candidates who may be considered for future teaching opportunities in Philosophy as they arise. This allows us to match candidates with courses based on expertise, availability, and departmental needs.

Key

Job Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Philosophy, including multiple sections of Introduction to Philosophy.
  • Facilitate engaging, in-person classroom instruction.
  • Evaluate and assess student learning.
  • Maintain regular office hours and support student success.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and student learning assessment, as needed.
  • Participate in a collaborative departmental teaching environment.
  • Attend relevant trainings and professional development related to teaching.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Philosophy from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level.
  • Ability to teach introductory courses in philosophy.
  • Ability to teach applied ethics courses (e.g., business ethics).
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education and collaboration with students and faculty.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
