CNC Operator – 2nd Shift

This role operates and maintains vertical and horizontal CNC lathes and machining centers to produce high-quality parts at an acceptable production level. You will work from blueprints, use precise measuring tools, and support quality and production goals while keeping machines and work areas clean and well-maintained.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain vertical and horizontal CNC lathes and machining centers across a variety of machines.
  • Work from blueprints and production documentation to machine parts to specification.
  • Set up CNC machines, including tooling, offsets, and program verification, to ensure accurate and efficient production.
  • Use precise measuring tools to inspect parts and verify that dimensions meet required tolerances.
  • Maintain and care for tools and gaging provided, ensuring they remain in good working condition.
  • Produce at a minimum of 80% efficiency while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure all materials and finished parts meet or exceed established quality requirements.
  • Maintain machine cleanliness and keep the work area organized and safe.
  • Complete production control charts and documentation daily to track output and quality.
  • Support and follow all quality policies and procedures during daily operations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machine issues and making adjustments to maintain consistent production.
  • Follow attendance and performance expectations in line with the company's point structure.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of CNC machining experience.
  • At least 1 year of CNC setup and troubleshooting experience.
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Ability to set up CNC machines, including tooling and program adjustments.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Ability to use precise measuring tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Ability to maintain production efficiency at or above 80%.
  • Capability to follow and support quality policies and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a CNC job shop or similar production environment.
  • Comfort working with multiple types of CNC machines and setups.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor machine and process issues independently.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining tools, gaging, and documentation.
  • Reliability and consistency in attendance within a structured point system.
  • Willingness to work 2nd shift and occasional overtime as needed.

Work Environment

This is a 2nd shift role in a non-climate-controlled shop, operating from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with possible Fridays as needed and occasional weekend work approximately once every few months. The facility is a smaller CNC shop with about 30 employees across two shifts, offering a close-knit, team-focused atmosphere. You will work around vertical and horizontal CNC lathes and machining centers, using precise measuring tools and standard shop equipment.

The environment includes a structured attendance and performance point system, with verbal and written warnings at defined thresholds and termination at higher point levels. The work involves typical manufacturing shop conditions, including machine noise and physical activity around production equipment, and requires adherence to all safety and operational procedures.
