Access Control Technician

We are seeking a motivated technologist to join our team to assist with the administration, support, documentation, and improvement of campus access control and video surveillance systems as part of the Enterprise Systems & Solutions team, a unit within Information Technology Services (ITS). This position will support the Lenel OnGuard access control system, the Milestone video management system, and related technologies used to manage door access, camera systems, wireless locks, and physical security workflows across campus.
This position will work closely with University Police, Maintenance and Operations, the ITS Network Operations unit, vendors, contractors, and other campus partners to support reliable and effective access control and video surveillance services. The successful candidate will assist with daily system support, troubleshooting, documentation, vendor coordination, system monitoring, and planning for upgrades or expansions. This work includes supporting existing buildings, renovations, new construction, and future security technology improvements.
The position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to supporting campus safety and operational continuity.
Required Qualifications:
At the time of appointment, the candidate must possess: A four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or At least a two-year degree with two years of relevant experience Experience supporting software applications, technology systems, security systems, infrastructure, or related technical services Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, document work performed, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users Basic understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, network connectivity, cabling, and troubleshooting network-connected devices Willingness and ability to function as part of a dynamic and collaborative team Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as well as travel, when necessary A valid driver's license at the time of appointment A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting access control systems, video surveillance systems, physical security systems, or related technology platforms Experience with Lenel OnGuard, Milestone, or comparable access control and video management systems Experience supporting door access hardware, card readers, controllers, cameras, wireless locks, or related building security infrastructure Experience working with vendors, contractors, facilities staff, law enforcement personnel, or public safety departments Experience with Windows-based application support, client software, server-connected applications, or administrative consoles Experience maintaining system documentation, asset inventories, diagrams, support procedures, or knowledge base articles Experience assisting with technology projects, system upgrades, hardware replacements, renovations, or new construction planning Knowledge of privacy, confidentiality, and appropriate-use considerations related to access control records, video footage, and security systems Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate user needs into effective technical solutions
Salary: $60,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits
