Project Manager, Generation Construction

Position Overview

As a Senior Project Manager within OPPD
¿ s Generation Construction team, you will lead complex capital projects that directly support the District's mission to provide affordable, reliable, and environmentally sensitive energy to the communities we serve. OPPD (Omaha Public Power District) is one of the largest publicly owned electric utilities in the United States, serving more than 855,000 people across 13 counties in southeast Nebraska. As a public utility, OPPD reinvests revenues back into the community, prioritizing system reliability, customer value, and long-term energy resilience.

In this role, you will oversee the construction of three natural-gas combustion turbine units, ensuring safe execution, schedule integrity, vendor alignment, and seamless coordination across engineering, construction, and commissioning teams. You will work closely with contractors and equipment suppliers to remove obstacles, manage competing onsite priorities, and uphold OPPD's standards for safety, quality, and operational excellence.

The Impact You'll Have

+ Drive high-quality project execution:
Deliver large-scale generation construction projects with consistent throughput, workflow optimization, and mentorship of junior team members.

+ Lead contractor and vendor performance:
Secure, manage, and evaluate engineering, architectural, and construction partners to ensure alignment with OPPD expectations and contract terms.

+ Ensure rigorous project documentation:
Produce, validate, and maintain drawings, specifications, redlines, cost/change notices, quality logs, and risk packages.

+ Maintain schedule and financial accuracy:
Coordinate construction progress, integrate contractor schedules, and maintain accurate budget tracking throughout the project lifecycle.

+ Resolve onsite conflicts and constraints:
Identify and mitigate safety, space, sequence, and logistical issues across all phases of construction and commissioning.

+ Champion stakeholder communication:
Provide clear, routine updates to internal and external partners, ensuring transparency and alignment.

+ Lead risk mitigation and issue resolution:
Identify risks early, implement mitigation strategies, and resolve construction issues to protect schedule and budget.

+ Support commissioning and startup:
Verify mechanical completion, oversee punch-list closure, and support functional testing and performance runs.

+ Uphold OPPD's safety culture:
Monitor contractor activities, participate in safety meetings, and ensure strict adherence to OPPD's LOTO and safety policies.

What You'll Bring

+ Extensive project management experience in large-scale industrial or electric-generation construction environments.

+ Strong contractor and vendor leadership with proven ability to manage multiple external partners and competing priorities.

+ Technical proficiency in construction processes, engineering drawings, specifications, and utility-scale generation systems.

+ Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules, integrate multiple contractor timelines, and maintain accurate financial stewardship.

+ Exceptional communication and stakeholder-alignment skills, with the ability to translate technical details into clear, actionable updates.

+ Commitment to safety, including experience with LOTO procedures, field safety oversight, and contractor safety coordination.

+ Professional certifications such as PMP, CCM, or equivalent

+ Familiarity with commissioning processes and startup testing

Non-Shift Work

Time Demands:  

Non-Essential Position:  T his position may be required to report to work beyond the normal shift to support the restoration of normal business operations.

This position m ust maintain 24-hour availability for technical and professional assistance, emergency response, and direction of remedial action in response to such emergencies, as well as maintain availability as required for on-call duty .

Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.

Field:
Work will be performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.

Generation Plant:
Work will be performed inside with exposure to industrial building conditions and will be exposed to extreme temperatures, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation and exposure to sounds. Noise levels may require shouting to be heard.
