Engineering Technician – Automation & Controls
Location:
Omaha, Nebraska Compensation: $57,000–$70,000 + Benefits
A growing manufacturer of engineered agricultural and industrial equipment is seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to support automation and controls for complex equipment systems.
This role works closely with Engineering, Production, Service, Sales, and customers to diagnose equipment issues, support Engineered-to-Order systems, and turn technical problems into practical solutions that improve equipment performance and reliability.
What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot PLC programs, including digital and analog I/O
- Navigate and diagnose equipment through HMI interfaces
- Troubleshoot control panels, field devices, VFDs, and related hardware
- Read, interpret, and help develop electrical schematics
- Determine whether equipment problems are controls, electrical, mechanical, or hardware related
- Ensure ETO control packages integrate properly with mechanical equipment
- Support Production, Service, Sales, and customers with controls-related issues
- Provide clear, step-by-step troubleshooting instructions
- Research and recommend solutions for customer field issues
- Partner with Development Engineering to incorporate customer feedback
- Support continuous improvement involving controls, reliability, and product performance
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on industrial automation, electrical controls, or manufacturing-equipment experience
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, control panels, and electrical schematics
- Ability to analyze PLC programs and troubleshoot digital and analog I/O
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with VFDs and parameter setup—or the technical aptitude to learn
- Ability to independently diagnose problems and develop practical solutions
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers
- Agricultural equipment, grain handling or drying systems, industrial machinery, field service, or engineered-equipment experience is a plus
