Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain a positive attitude and create a friendly, flexible, and teamwork-oriented atmosphere.
  • Generate a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet customers and provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner in any department.
  • Make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to desired products, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and forwarding customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers.
  • Perform as a leader and role model and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Plan, prepare, and adjust work schedules; assign employees to specific duties and follow up to ensure timely completion.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of employees in all areas of the store, and perform necessary work at all job levels.
  • Learn and formulate pricing philosophies or merchandise following guidelines of the Store Director.
  • Ensure proper customer service throughout the store and address specific customer issues.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as promotion, transfer, or dismissal.
  • Train and enforce safety procedures to provide a safe and healthy work environment, fill out accident forms, work safely to prevent injuries, fill out first report of injury, and assign light duty as necessary.
  • Compile, store, retrieve, and understand managerial data (sales, inventory reports, advertising and display projections/actuals, etc.).
  • Order merchandise (new product, promotional, seasonal, or replenishment), verify delivery, ensure quality, compare records with merchandise ordered, and report discrepancies.
  • Train workers in store policies, department procedures, and job duties.
  • Ensure compliance with established policy/law, security, sales, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Determine location of advertising and promotional displays, ensuring product quality and quantity to meet customer and store demands and profitability.
  • Confer with employees and assist in solving problems affecting job performance.
  • Explain store services to potential personal and business account customers to generate additional business.
  • Understand basics of store accounting.
  • Maintain strict adherence to department and company dress and personal hygiene guidelines.
  • Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Report to work on time.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Determine motivational needs of employees and provide appropriate environment.
  • Stay current with market trends and information (competition, new products, equipment, merchandising techniques).
  • Provide continuous education for existing employees regarding new and updated company and store policies, procedures, and duties.
  • Sell merchandise to company employees and customers or issue merchandise upon requisition by authorized personnel (inter‑store transfers).
  • Handle cash registers.
  • Recommend cost‑reduction programs.
  • Review personnel records for completeness, accuracy, timeliness; understand basics of payroll system.
  • Recommend additions, deletions, and shelf allocation of merchandise for any department.
  • Assist in other store areas as needed.
  • Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Ability to solve practical problems; handle variable situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions.
