Accountable and reports to:
District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home. The Wine & Spirits Department Manager reports to you:
Wine & Spirits Clerks.
- Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
- Make an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.
- Assist customers by: escorting them to the products they’re looking for; securing products that are out of reach; loading or unloading heavy items; making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests; performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.
- Answer the telephone promptly when called upon, and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
- Stock, rotate, and face product on shelves.
- Supervise and assign work for evening/part‑time crew.
- Ensure department standards are met.
- Handle and satisfy customer issues.
- Train new employees.
- Review out of stocks, ad items, and back stock.
- Order merchandise as directed by department head and control inventory.
- Monitor sales regularly.
- Meet with vendors to obtain point of purchase (POP) materials and other sales‑enhancing items when available.
- Oversee intercom selling.
- Price items for displays.
- Make sales suggestions and ideas to department manager.
- Understand and practice proper sanitation procedures and ensure the work area is always clean and neat, and maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
- Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Assume management duties in absence of Department Manager.
- Unload truck and ensure product is stocked in appropriate area.
- Clean display cases and monitor maintenance of equipment and floors.
- Review price tags and update signage as needed.
- Assist in other areas of store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; interview to obtain basic information; guide people and provide basic direction.
High School or equivalent experience. Six months or less of related work experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports)Instructing, assigning, and reviewing the work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; and acting on employee problems.
Physical RequirementsMust be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision.
Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working ConditionsThis position is frequently exposed to equipment movement hazards and dangerous chemicals/solvents. There is continuous exposure to noise, temperature extremes, dampness, and occasional exposure to electrical shock. This is a fast‑paced work environment with significant pressure.
Equipment Used to Perform JobForklift, calculator, computer, NCR, cash register, pallet jack, two‑wheeler, box cutter, and C.A.R.S. reordering system.
