Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in the employee’s department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks that enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers.
  • Work with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Operate the cash register accurately, scan product, report improper cash levels, redeem promotional coupons and food stamps, receive cash and checks, complete credit‑card and in‑store charge transactions, figure discounts, count back change, and issue receipts.
  • Place merchandise in bags or boxes and give packages to customers.
  • Assist with the inventory of the department.
  • Receive and check in delivered merchandise, placing it in appropriate storage areas; fill displays and stock shelves.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the lot, shoveling sidewalks of snow, spreading ice melt, and hosing down the lot.
  • Fill outside towel holders, replenish or refresh window washer fluid.
  • Remove trash inside and out in a timely manner.
  • Check in product, put product away, and review invoices if required.
  • Understand and practice proper sanitation procedures, keeping the work area clean and neat.
  • Clean registers, restrooms, break room, backroom, sweep and mop the floor, and tend to supply needs.
  • Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Report to work on schedule and on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Order merchandise and supplies as needed.
  • Price products for customers as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; interview to obtain basic information; guide people and provide basic direction.
Education and Experience

No education or experience requirements.

Physical Requirements
  • Perform medium work: exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements: vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Perform activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness; possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Fast paced work environment.

Telephone, fax, copier, pallet jacks, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, box cutter, knives, computer, calculator, frozen juice machine, coffee maker, cash register, RPM, gas pumps.
