About Pleasant Grove Police Department
The Pleasant Grove Police Department (PGPD) has 30 full–time Police Officers and a culture of camaraderie and service. We offer specialty positions including Patrol, Motors, SWAT, K9, Bicycle Patrol, Drone Pilot, Criminal Investigations, Special Victims Investigations, and Major Crimes Task Force.
Hiring Range$31.71 - $48.18 per hour, depending on qualifications. Positions available for Police Officer II/III/IV with pay commensurate with prior sworn service.

A Police Officer is responsible for administrative duties within the department, including technical, investigative, crime prevention, and public interaction responsibilities as required for Road Patrol Officers.
Functions and Duties- Upholds and enforces the law impartially to protect life, liberty, property, human rights, and the dignity of the public.
- Patrols the city to preserve law and order; prevents and discovers the commission of crimes, enforcing criminal and traffic codes of Utah.
- Provides a visible presence to deter crime and reassure the community.
- Responds to calls and complaints involving thefts, burglaries, assaults, misdemeanors, and felony crimes.
- Conducts preliminary investigations, identifies, secures, and gathers evidence.
- Makes arrests, prepares written reports, and testifies in court.
- Identifies individuals and locations at risk of crime.
- Issues traffic citations, directs traffic, and investigates traffic accidents.
- Works in partnership with businesses, groups, and individuals.
- Responds to citizen and community needs.
- Demonstrates initiative and stays abreast of current trends, practices, and programs through career and professional development.
- Maintains professional work habits and image.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Utah POST Certification.
- Valid Utah Driver's License.
- At least two years of sworn experience required.
- Law enforcement methods and applicable laws and ordinances.
- Geography of the city.
- Mathematical skills including basic arithmetic and use of simple formulas.
- Interpreting reports, forms, records, and comparable data; intermediate computer and technical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Quality customer service, even in difficult circumstances.
- Common sense, maturity, ethical decision‑making, and commitment.
- Rapid decision‑making in life or death situations.
- Stress management and handling stressful situations.
- Handling of animals.
- Physical fitness: climbing, maintaining equilibrium, bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, running, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.
- Use of surveillance equipment, computers, firearms, handcuffs, spray, baton, and radio.
- Work may vary, regularly in hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions.
- Frequently works with external customers on a regular basis.
- Position meets Utah Retirement Systems requirements for the Public Safety Retirement Plan.
- Employee has completed POST.
- Employee’s life or personal safety is placed at risk during duties.
- Employee performs duties that actively prevent or detect crime and enforce criminal statutes or ordinances of Utah.
- Employee responds to situations involving threats to public safety and makes emergency decisions affecting lives and health of others.
- Employee performs duties that provide community protection.
