Position Title:

Tenure‑track Puente Counselor/Coordinator.

The Puente Program focuses on culturally responsive counseling, academic, career, and personal support for Chicanx/Latinx and first‑generation students, with integrated English, counseling, and mentoring components.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counseling to Puente students and others, using culturally responsive strategies.
  • Teach counseling and career courses; facilitate workshops supportive of underrepresented students.
  • Establish a positive, motivating environment encouraging persistence and transfer success.
  • Help develop abbreviated and comprehensive educational plans.
  • Collaborate with instructional faculty to support shared goals and linked Puente courses.
  • Participate fully in college governance: attend meetings, serve on committees, especially those addressing first‑generation and Chicanx/Latinx student success.
  • Engage in professional growth: PUENTE statewide training, Puente Summer Institute, innovation in counseling and teaching.
  • Perform other faculty duties, including work outside regular hours as needed.
  • Coordinate Puente Program activities: plan, implement, evaluate events and activities; recruit and train mentors; attend linked English courses.
Qualifications

Minimum:
One of the following earned degrees from an accredited institution (exact title match required):

  • Masters in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling.
  • Equivalent, such as a bachelor’s degree plus MFT license.

Applicants who do not possess an exact minimum qualification must submit an equivalency petition form.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience providing academic, career, and personal counseling to first‑generation or Chicanx/Latinx students.
  • Experience teaching courses or workshops related to college orientation, transfer, or career planning for underrepresented students.
  • Experience coordinating a cohort model learning community, including tours, cultural activities, and mentor programs.
  • Experience and/or commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration with budgeting, teaching linked courses, and creating integrated assignments.
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English.

Required or equivalent credentials as noted in qualifications.
