Special Instructions
The Engineering Department at Diablo Valley College is seeking qualified part‑time Engineering instructors for teaching lecture and lab courses at the Pleasant Hill campus in Fall 2026 and/or future semesters.
Required Application Documents:
- Any/all undergraduate and graduate unofficial transcripts (must show degree and the date degree was conferred).
- Résumé including information regarding preparation and experience relevant to the position.
- Cover letter explaining your interest in the position.
Courses offered include Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Drawing, MATLAB, C++ Programming, Electrical Circuits, Materials Science, Thermodynamics, and Statics. Teaching assignments and courses taught may vary depending on student enrollment and the current needs of the department.
Applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Engineering (or the equivalent), excellent teamwork and communication skills, and an interest in supporting a diverse student population.
Prior teaching experience is preferred; however, applicants with no prior teaching experience but a strong aptitude and interest in teaching are encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities- Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules.
- Create and maintain a learning environment that encourages discussion and critical thinking.
- Evaluate student progress and grade student work.
- Meet with students outside of class.
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Keep current knowledge in subject matter areas.
- Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
- Maintain accurate academic records.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master’s in any field of engineering, or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above fields AND Master’s in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry or geology, or
- The equivalent.
Note:
A bachelor’s in any field of engineering with a professional engineer’s license is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Interest and/or experience in supporting a highly diverse student population.
- Good communication skills.
