Overview
Adaptive Physical Education position within Spectrum Center Schools and Programs, a division of Chance Light Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education.
Location:
Concord, CA & Pittsburg, CA. Grade levels served: K-12. Salary: $75,000–$85,000 per year depending on experience, plus a $2,000 Annual Education Stipend. Environment emphasizes special education with a focus on innovation, collaboration, and student-centered service delivery.
- Implement designated services as detailed in each student’s IEP/ITP, meeting weekly minutes within the service windows.
- Develop and implement standards-aligned, evidence-based curriculum aligned with IEP/ITP goals, including on-site and community-based instruction as monitored by the supervisor.
- Develop individualized schedules addressing each student’s IEP/ITP goals related to designated services.
- Consult with the supervisor regarding student progress and IEP/ITP/PBIP implementation; support transition planning for mainstreaming, inclusion, or post-secondary pathways.
- Evaluate student needs; prepare IEPs/ITPs and Progress Reports; report data to the supervisor, parent/caregiver, and district representative.
- Record and maintain accurate data within student programs, classroom records, and data systems.
- Assist teachers and staff by modeling best practices and preparing materials for related-service curriculum.
- Participate in IEP meetings as requested; present goals and current levels using data-based evidence; address goal-related questions.
- Provide direct services through collaborative consultation with instructional and clinical teams.
- Prepare individualized materials and adaptive equipment to maximize student access and engagement.
- Facilitate transitions to least restrictive environments through coordinated planning and skill generalization.
- Complete required basic competency training and courses, including supervision training and compliance modules; maintain credentials as required.
- Observe and train staff to implement related-service goals consistently across the school day; mentor staff as requested while meeting credentialing requirements.
- Attend required meetings, supervision sessions, all-staff meetings, annual planning, and action-team forums.
- Maintain professional communication in line with organizational norms; provide and receive feedback with data-based rationale.
- Adhere to Spectrum Center and Chance Light policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support high-quality, student-centered services.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or a closely related field.
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an adaptive physical education (APE) credential.
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a special education instruction credential (preferred).
- Valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one; ability to obtain and maintain crisis management training certification.
- Experience with adaptive physical education services, especially in alternative, special education, and/or behavioral health settings.
- Knowledge of special education services and compliance for students with learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, autism, and related disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of IEPs and related services; proficient in ABA, PBIS, FBA, BIP, and related supports.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology, Microsoft Office, data entry, and basic office equipment.
