Music Adjunct Instructor – Applied Low Brass (TEMPORARY)
Diablo Valley College is seeking an adjunct faculty member in the area of Applied Music, specifically delivering one‑on‑one instruction to low‑brass students (trombone, euphonium, tuba). Classical and jazz instruction, as well as fundamental pedagogy, will be required. The private instruction should prepare students for transfer to a junior standing after two years (four semesters). Once approved, adjunct faculty may also be approved to do substitute teaching.
Responsibilities- Teach students to perform on primary low‑brass instrument with sound, pedagogically‑appropriate fundamentals using contemporary best practices.
- Execute music with rhythmic, melodic/harmonic, and stylistic accuracy and expressive nuance.
- Develop music literacy across a variety of eras, styles, and genres.
- Select appropriate repertoire for solo performance.
- Perform improvised solos tending to chord progressions as applicable.
- Prepare for public performance including approaches to practicing, memorization, and coordination with accompanists.
- Prepare for transfer‑institution auditions.
- Provide regular instruction according to established curriculum, schedules, and course outlines.
- Meet with students outside of class, evaluate progress, and maintain accurate records.
- Master’s in music, OR Bachelor’s in music AND Master’s in humanities, OR the equivalent.
- Equivalent qualifications as determined by statewide Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.
- Experience teaching classical and jazz trombone, euphonium, and tuba, and establishing a low‑brass studio.
- Demonstrated experience with diverse student populations.

Adjunct instructor classroom faculty pay rate is $77.87–$128.97 per hour (up to $151.16).
