The Construction Inspector (Temporary / Seasonal) is a technical position which reports to the Construction Management Supervisor and approved to support various construction projects in 2026. The Construction Inspector serves as the Village's field representative and assists in maintaining quality assurance throughout the construction of municipal projects. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide inspection, observation, documentation, and reporting services on various public infrastructure and right-of-way construction projects throughout the Village.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; however, evening and weekend hours may be required based upon construction activities and project schedules.

• Provides field observation and inspection of public infrastructure construction including, but not limited to, roadways, sidewalks, water utility systems, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater facilities, and related municipal infrastructure improvements.
• Monitors contractor construction activities for compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, contract requirements, and Village standards.
• Interacts and communicates with contractors regarding construction activities, project schedules, work deficiencies, construction issues, punch-lists, resident or business needs, complaints, or concerns.
• Operates GPS equipment, mobile devices, and computer systems to collect field information, verify locations, document construction activities, and maintain project records.
• Prepares accurate daily reports, quantity documentation, inspection records, photographs, and project correspondence documenting construction activities and project progress.
• Measures, documents, and verifies quantities of work completed.
• Reviews and interprets construction plans, specifications, permits, and contract documents for the purpose of observing, documenting, and reporting construction activities.
• Identifies construction issues, exercises sound judgment, and communicates concerns and recommendations in a clear and timely manner to Village staff, contractors, consultants, utilities, and residents.
• Assists in resolving routine construction-related concerns and field conflicts through effective communication, documentation, and coordination with contractors, residents, utilities, consultants, and Village staff.
• Adheres to all Village policies and procedures, codes, and ordinances.
• Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the Engineering Department.

• Requires frequent public interaction and the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Frequent movement about the Village of Pleasant Prairie boundary, worksites, and office spaces that will require regular standing, walking, and/ or sitting.
• Occasionally requires pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and climbing.
• Frequently works in an outdoor environment, in hazardous conditions wet or muddy areas, wind, precipitation, and high and low temperatures.
• Frequent proximity to machinery and moving equipment or in an environment where the noise level is normally moderately loud.
• Frequent operation of an engineer’s scale, measuring tape, calculator, equipment for testing concrete slump & air, computer, phone, copier, and other office equipment.
• Must be capable of performing essential job functions at a safe level with reasonable accommodations.

• Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a closely related field preferred.
• Previous experience in construction inspection, municipal construction, public works, engineering, surveying, heavy civil construction, utility construction, or a related field preferred.
• Possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Working knowledge of roadway, utility, grading, erosion control, concrete, and asphalt construction practices preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with Trimble Geospatial (i.e. Survey Controller) and asset management software preferred.
• Familiarity with the State of Wisconsin Standard Specifications for Highway and Structure Construction, and Sewer and Water Construction, current editions, preferred.
• Ability to complete Competent Person Certification for Excavation within twelve (12) months.
• Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
