The Tooling Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of jigs, fixtures, and production tooling used in a manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in improving quality, repeatability, throughput, and operational efficiency by delivering robust, production-ready tooling solutions.

About the Role

The position combines detailed design work with hands-on involvement in build, debug, and production support, working closely with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and production tooling from concept through production release
  • Create detailed 3D models and drawings using Solid Works
  • Develop tooling solutions that support accuracy, repeatability, safety, and efficiency
  • Perform design calculations, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturability reviews
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings and BOMs
  • Support tooling build, installation, debug, and production launch activities
  • Troubleshoot tooling and fixture issues on the shop floor
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams to support production needs
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling performance and reliability
  • Work with external suppliers and machine shops as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience designing jigs, fixtures, and production tooling
  • Strong Solid Works proficiency (or equivalent CAD software)
  • Experience supporting tooling in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on, practical engineering mindset
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Combination of desk-based design work and hands-on shop-floor support
  • Interaction with manufacturing equipment and production teams
