Position Summary

The Correctional Health Department is hiring for multiple vacancies, full‑time and part‑time, including casual and intermittent positions. All hires will be backgrounded and trained at all correctional sites in Ramsey County, including the Ramsey County Correctional Facility, Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center, and Ramsey County Juvenile Detention Center. A licensed Registered Nurse who utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of healthcare needs will provide direct patient care under the direction of a Nurse Supervisor – Correctional Health.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in on‑coming and off‑going shift reports, ensuring shift preparedness and communicating needs to maintain safe and effective care during and after the shift.
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care, meeting inmates’ psychological, psychosocial, and emotional needs; perform assessments in intake, health care unit, emergency in‑housing, chronic care clinics, and the medical unit.
  • Plan nursing care based on assessments, make timely referrals, initiate nursing care, and document plans appropriately.
  • Implement nursing and medical orders safely and cost‑effectively, document care, and provide inmate education.
  • Evaluate inmate responses, make referrals, delegate duties to team members, and guide care provision by others.
  • Utilize effective communication skills, protect confidentiality, and participate in problem‑solving activities.
  • Promote a safe environment for inmate care, serving as a role model and maintaining harmonious relationships with staff and inmates.
  • Maintain clinical area cleanliness, participate in counts and cleaning assignments, and adhere to infection control policies.
  • Continue professional growth, attend in‑services, offer education to inmates and staff, and support organizational change.
  • Perform necessary duties to maintain continuity of care when staffing demands arise.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of an accredited two‑year nursing program.
  • Experience: None.
  • Certifications/Licensure: Registered Nurse license in Minnesota, Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Other: Must attach RN license and resume.
Exam/Screening Process Information

You must attach an RN license and resume to be considered. To verify a nurse license, visit the MN Board of Nursing and provide a screenshot that includes the expiration date. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the hiring department for consideration.

Veteran's Preference

This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after the examination process. Eligible applicants should submit DD‑214 and supporting documents during application.
