Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN-Med Surg)

Licensed Practical Nurse-Med Surg Duties:

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), provides patient care according to the nursing process; performs treatments and procedures within the framework of licensure; administers medications, and assists RN with patient teaching. Complies with established standards and procedures.

Responsibilities include:

• Demonstrates competency with specific clinical skills and techniques listed in the department/unit skills list.
• Provides patient care according to the Nursing Process.
• Performs treatments and procedures in compliance with hospital/nursing policies and procedures.
• Administers medication according to hospital/nursing procedures.
• Assists in admitting patients by orienting them to the hospital routine in a sincere and helpful manner.
• Responds promptly and courteously to any patient call light.
• Organizes and maintains patient rooms and department work areas in a neat, clean, and well-supplied manner.
• Assists the RN in patient teaching.
• Demonstrates correct and safe techniques in the use of patient equipment according to specific product information and policy/procedure manuals.
• Recognizes the occurrence of life-threatening situations and emergencies and takes appropriate actions in a timely manner.
• Actively participates in the implementation and monitoring of unit-based Quality Assurance standards of care.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the framework of licensure.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN-Med Surg) Requirements:

• Entry Level
• High School plus completion of an Accredited Practical Nursing Program
• Licensure to be eligible to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Wisconsin.
• Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
• Successful completion of hospital approved pharmacology course within 6 months of hire.
