Job Description

The Quality Technician programs and edits CMM programs, performs precise measurements, and supports the inspection process across new product development and receiving inspection activities. This role helps maintain and improve the certified quality management system by validating processes, documenting results, and participating in in-process audits. The position focuses heavily on measurement of tight tolerance parts, working closely with engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve issues and ensure consistent product quality.

Responsibilities

+ Program, edit, and operate coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to inspect tight tolerance parts using PCDMIS and related software.

+ Perform detailed measurements and inspections of products in process and at final stages, ensuring they meet specifications and quality standards.

+ Support receiving inspection by measuring new parts from suppliers, identifying issues, and validating that components meet drawing and specification requirements.

+ Contribute to the new product development (NPD) process by measuring and validating new parts that have not previously been produced or inspected, helping to establish robust measurement methods.

+ Collaborate with engineers, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve part-related issues, including methods of measurement, interpretation of drawings, and understanding of GD&T requirements.

+ Support and maintain the certified quality management system (QMS) by validating processes, participating in in-process audits, and providing accurate documentation.

+ Use a variety of inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparators, and Keyence systems to perform precise measurements.

+ Take ownership of measurement activities at the facility, including CMM operation, drawing interpretation, and selection of appropriate inspection methods.

+ Assist with cross-training efforts within the quality team to ensure coverage across inspection, calibration, and other quality functions.

+ Manage assigned projects and tasks independently, organizing and prioritizing work to meet required deadlines without constant supervision.

+ Maintain accurate records of inspection results, measurements, and quality documentation in accordance with internal procedures.

+ Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within a 5S environment, helping to enhance quality processes and overall efficiency.

+ Demonstrate reliable attendance and work a full scheduled shift, ensuring consistent support for production and NPD activities.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum 3 years of experience operating coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), with CMM programming experience preferred.

+

Experience with CMM software such as PCDMIS, CALYPSO, or MCOSMOS, with the ability to learn PCDMIS if not already proficient.

+ Minimum 3 years of experience performing measurements with calipers and micrometers.

+ Minimum 3 years of experience working with tight tolerance parts in aerospace, automotive, or medical industries.

+ Practical knowledge of reading part drawings, including an understanding of GD&T symbols, their meanings, and how they apply to measurement and inspection.

+ Hands-on experience using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators.

+ Ability to operate or learn to operate Hexagon CMMs using PCDMIS software.

+ Capability to take ownership of measurement activities and work as a self-starter with limited direct supervision.

+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement, documentation, and inspection processes.

+ Ability to manage time effectively, handle multiple tasks, and complete projects within required timelines.

+ Willingness to work a full 8-hour shift with consistent, on-time attendance.

Skills & Qualifications

+ CMM programming experience using PCDMIS is highly preferred.

+

Experience with other CMM software platforms such as MCOSMOS or CALYPSO, with the ability to transition to PCDMIS.

+ Familiarity with Keyence measurement systems, with training available for candidates who do not yet have this experience.

+ Experience using optical comparators and a variety of gauges for dimensional inspection.

+ Experience in blueprint reading, quality control, and inspection of custom manufactured components.

+ Interest in working within new product development environments and supporting the launch of new parts and processes.

+ Willingness to participate in cross-training within the quality team, including inspection and calibration activities.

+ Comfort working in a dynamic environment with variety in daily tasks and measurement challenges.
