Description

The Van Driver is a part-time position in the Youth Department and reports to the Youth Services Coordinator. This role ensures the safe and timely transportation of children enrolled in the Before & After School Program. The primary responsibility is to transport participants to and from the Rec Plex and designated schools according to a strict schedule, while fostering a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for all children.

Job Duties
  • Drive a multi-passenger vehicle to transport children between Rec Plex and designated schools.
  • Safely pick-up and drop off children at regularly scheduled school locations while following strict time schedules.
  • Assist children with entering and exiting the vehicle as needed.
  • Ensure children are properly secured in age-appropriate seats and seat belts;
    Maintain order among passengers during routes to ensure safety.
  • Track and maintain accurate list of children to ensure proper school pick-up and drop-off.
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and transportation policies; ensure safety rules are followed as passengers board, exit, and/or cross streets.
  • Read maps and/or follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Report delays, accidents, and other traffic or transportation situations.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety checks (fuel, tires, lights, cleanliness, etc).
  • Complete daily driving checklist provided by Youth Services Coordinator.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctions or repairs needed;
    Re-fuel vehicles on as needed basis.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the Youth Department.
Physical
  • Must be able to listen and communicate effectively as well and understand operating procedures and written directives.
  • High degree of public interaction and communication with exposure to periods of high-volume activity.
  • May involve driving the vehicle in inclement weather including rain, snow, sleet, and fog.
Work Schedule:

Hours may vary
  • AM shift: (Monday-Friday) 7:30am-9:00am
  • Mid-afternoon shift: (Monday-Thursday) 10:45am-12:30pm
  • Afternoon shift: (Monday-Thursday) 1:30pm-4:30pm/1:30pm-3:15pm
  • Friday: 10:30am-1:30pm/10:30am-11:30am and 2pm-3:15pm.
Educational, Certifications and Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain good standards.
  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid training within three (3) months of hire date.
