Job DescriptionA part‑time Special Education (SpEd) Life Skills Para educator position for 28.75 hours per week, 180 days over 9.5 months per year (Wednesday workdays generally shortened due to Early Release). Compensation will be according to Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.

This position is funded, in full or in part, through grant allocations or enrollment‑based funding sources. Employment is guaranteed through the current school year (or the upcoming school year if the posting occurs during summer). Continuation of employment beyond this period is not assured and is contingent upon the availability of future funding.
Duties and Responsibilities- Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support and reinforce lesson plans.
- Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Implement instructional behavioral programs under teacher supervision, according to lesson plans, to improve students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
- Maintain students’ files/records for documentation and data collection.
- Monitor students during classroom, library, playground activities, etc., to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Perform record‑keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying) to support the teacher and/or administrator.
- Assist with daily living skills (e.g. toileting, changing diapers, feeding, personal hygiene) to demonstrate skills and provide care.
- Adapt to changing work priorities, display tact and courtesy, meet deadlines, set priorities, attend to detail, and work with detailed information/data.
- Attendance is an essential function: physical presence at the worksite is required for in‑person collaboration and direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student‑size chairs) for extended periods.
- Safely manage physically or verbally aggressive students.
- Participate with students in physical fitness activities including walking, stretching, and aerobic exercise.
- Lift occasionally up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches and frequently up to 25 lbs. to a height of 36 inches.
- Sanitize and clean equipment (work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).
- Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
- Walk with students to bus stops in inclement weather.
- Willing to participate in and utilize MANDT training.
- May require working with bio‑hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.).
