Position Summary: The job of Special Education Para educator (Secretary) was established to assist teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students, perform clerical tasks for the Special Education department, and assist students with personal care and special health care needs as well as developing their academic, daily living and behavioral skills.

• Communicates with parents for scheduling meetings and taking messages for special education teachers.
• Assists in maintaining students' files/records for documentation.
• Monitors individual students in classrooms, school, and community to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions such as scheduling and copying.
• Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support and reinforce lesson plans.
• Supports students in a variety of settings—including special education, general education, one‑on‑one.
• Provides accommodations such as reading tests aloud, scribe, alternate assessment locations, and check‑in/check‑out support.
• Assists classroom teachers in collecting data.
• Implements instructional behavioral programs under teacher supervision to improve students' academic success.
• Assists with daily living skills (toileting, diaper changing, feeding, personal hygiene) on an occasional basis.
• Performs duties assigned by the building administrator or special education department.
• Maintains regular attendance at work.
• Fills the role of substitute teacher for special education classrooms as needed.
• Physical presence at the worksite is essential; requires in‑person collaboration and direct interaction with team members, staff, students, and guardians.

  • Maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, sitting) for extended periods.
  • Safely manage physical or verbally aggressive students.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches occasionally and 25 lbs. frequently.
  • Enter and exit full‑size 8‑passenger vans.
  • Sanitize and clean equipment such as work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs.
  • Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergencies.
  • Walk with students to bus stops in inclement weather and train students to use public transportation.
  • Participate in MANDT training.
  • May work with bio‑hazards (blood‑borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials).

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: 2 years of college or a Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous job‑related experience preferred.
