Area Construction Manager

A premier heavy civil construction firm with a longstanding reputation for excellence is seeking an experienced area construction manager to lead multiple high-profile infrastructure projects in the San Francisco, Monterey, and Union City/East Bay regions. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by shaping project success and mentoring project teams in one of California's most active construction corridors.

Area Construction Manager Benefits & Compensation

  • Competitive base salary ($200,000–$225,000) plus annual bonus (approx. 10%)

Area Construction Manager Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 20+ years of progressive heavy civil construction experience, including at least 3-5 years in area/regional management or senior oversight of multiple projects
  • Experience in WWT/WT public works construction with 10-15 years of specifically in water related public works construction:
    Required
  • Demonstrated expertise in water/wastewater pipelines, treatment plants (WTP/WWTP), pump stations, storm drains, site utilities, and related infrastructure
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
  • California Civil PE license would be an advantage
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor large field teams in demanding urban and coastal environments
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency with tools such as Primavera P6, Procore, Heavy Bid, or equivalent

Area Construction Manager Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience working with public agencies, owners, engineers, and large subcontractor teams
  • A track record of cultivating client partnerships and fostering a culture of safety
  • Deep understanding of regulatory compliance (OSHA/Cal-OSHA, SWPPP, traffic, and environmental standards)

Area Construction Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple heavy civil construction projects across the San Francisco, Monterey, and Union City/East Bay areas
  • Mentor and supervise project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field personnel
  • Champion a safety-first culture and ensure adherence to all relevant standards and regulations
  • Oversee project financials, forecasting, and risk management to drive profitability
  • Build strong client, owner, engineer, agency, and subcontractor relationships in the region
  • Support pre-construction activities, logistics, estimating input, and submittal processes
  • Provide regular reporting and proactively resolve operational and technical challenges
