Project Executive - Commercial Construction

Department: Project Management

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Pleasanton, CA

Compensation: $270,000 - $290,000 / year

Description

The Project Executive is responsible for the successful performance of multiple projects, project teams, and client relationships across W.E. O'Neil's Pleasanton-area commercial portfolio — spanning office, retail, higher education, aviation, and other commercial project types. This is a senior operational leadership role: providing oversight and guidance to Project Directors and project teams, shaping business performance and strategy, and playing a direct role in major client pursuits.

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations or other assigned supervisor, and works closely with clients, consultants, trade partners, project teams, and company leadership to drive both operational and business outcomes.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction across assigned projects, project teams, and operational resources, championing a strong safety culture throughout.
  • Own the financial performance of assigned projects and portfolios — profitability, forecasting, cash flow, and risk.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, and Project Managers across a diverse mix of commercial project types.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with clients, architects, consultants, and industry partners; serve as a senior company representative on key accounts.
  • Lead or support major pursuits, client interviews, and presentations within targeted markets.
  • Develop, mentor, and support Project Directors and project leadership, building the organization's next generation of operational leaders.
  • Guide project teams in evaluating and mitigating significant contractual, financial, and operational risks.
  • Participate in review and negotiation of significant contracts and project agreements.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 18+ years of progressively responsible construction industry experience, with demonstrated success leading complex construction operations, project teams, and client relationships across varied commercial sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert understanding of project delivery methods, construction operations, risk management, project controls, procurement, contract administration, and financial management.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction means and methods, constructability principles, building systems, and VDC/BIM processes.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic decision-making, with the ability to oversee multiple project teams and Project Directors simultaneously.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and leadership skills across clients, project teams, and company leadership.
  • Experience developing operational leaders and supporting organizational growth
Benefits
  • Oversight of a varied commercial portfolio — office, retail, higher education, aviation — rather than being boxed into a single project type.
  • A senior leadership seat with real influence over strategy, major pursuits, and developing the people who become future Project Directors.
  • 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company with a track record dating back to 1925 — your leadership has a direct stake in the outcome.
  • Full benefits package: competitive pay, bonus program, medical/dental/vision insurance, PTO/sick leave, life insurance, 401(k) with match, and a student debt assistance program.
