Middle School Director - Part-Time

Primary Ministry Focus: Middle School Students, Grades 6–8

The Middle School Director leads the middle school ministry of Blue Oaks Students under the direction of the Director of Student Ministries.

This role exists to help middle school students know Jesus, grow lasting faith, and live out their calling in community. The Middle School Director provides focused leadership for weekly middle school ministry, student discipleship, small group leader development, parent partnership, events, and ministry follow-up.

The Director of Student Ministries will continue to provide overall leadership, vision, coaching, and support while remaining involved in both Middle School and High School ministry during the launch season.

1. Lead Weekly Middle School Ministry

• Lead and strengthen Wednesday night and Sunday morning middle school ministry
• Create welcoming, safe, fun, and spiritually meaningful environments
• Help oversee games, teaching flow, small groups, transitions, and leader engagement
• Prepare weekly ministry needs, including supplies, discussion questions, and communication
• Evaluate weekly ministry rhythms with the Director of Student Ministries

2. Disciple and Shepherd Students

• Build relationships with middle school students before, during, and after ministry gatherings
• Follow up with new, inconsistent, disconnected, or spiritually curious students
• Help students take next steps in faith, small groups, baptism, serving, camps, and student leadership
• Provide basic pastoral care and communicate deeper care needs to the Director of Student Ministries
• Help students feel known, loved, and connected in community

3. Recruit and Develop Leaders

• Recruit, train, encourage, and support middle school small group leaders and volunteers
• Help leaders feel prepared for weekly ministry and small groups
• Provide leaders with resources, expectations, discussion questions, and follow-up support
• Encourage leaders to build healthy relationships with students
• Communicate leader needs and concerns to the Director of Student Ministries

4. Partner With Parents

• Communicate with parents about middle school ministry rhythms, events, and next steps
• Follow up with parents of new or disconnected students as needed
• Encourage parents in the discipleship of their students
• Communicate care concerns to the Director of Student Ministries

5. Support Teaching, Events, and Ministry Systems

• Teach middle school students as assigned
• Help adapt teaching content for middle school students
• Plan and support middle school events, camps, retreats, and special gatherings
• Track attendance, follow-up needs, and student connection points
• Assist with Planning Center, registration, supplies, and event details as needed
• Participate in student ministry staff meetings and planning rhythms

This role owns the middle school lane within Blue Oaks Students but does not carry full responsibility for all of Student Ministries.

Unless separately agreed upon, this role is not responsible for:

• Overseeing high school ministry
• Owning the full middle school and high school student ministry vision
• Managing the full student ministry budget
  
  Making final decisions on overall teaching direction or ministry strategy
• Carrying all pastoral care situations alone

• Communicates clearly with students, parents, volunteers, and staff
• Can lead with both fun and spiritual seriousness
• Is dependable, organized, relationally healthy, and teachable
• Can encourage and correct students with grace and clarity
• Is available for evening and weekend ministry rhythms, including weekly programs, events, camps, and retreats
• Can complete all required Blue Oaks safety, background check, child protection, and mandated reporter requirements

• 2+ years of student ministry, kids ministry, camp ministry, or equivalent leadership experience
• Experience leading small groups, teaching students, or developing volunteers
• Experience helping plan student programs, events, or ministry environments
• Bachelor's degree, ministry training, or equivalent ministry experience preferred but not required
