Job Summary

The Clinical Care Assistant is a medical assistant whose primary role is to assist the nursing team in communication with patients and other health care systems to better coordinate patient care. This role also involves hands‑on care such as ear lavage, EKGs, and other assigned duties. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, one year of experience in a healthcare setting, and a current certification as a medical assistant.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a medical assistant in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Current valid certification as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • EPIC experience is a plus.
  • Excellent telephone and patient service skills.
  • Knowledge of patient billing procedures and insurance verification.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multi‑task and handle stress well.
  • English/Spanish bilingual is required.
  • Strong analytical, employee relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing, business communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.
  • Proactive, self‑motivated and able to work independently in a fast‑paced environment as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and must positively represent the organization at all times.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships.
  • Ability to organize and set priorities and be able to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Monitor the Epic RN message pool and assist in triaging messages and routing to staff at the appropriate scope or level.
  • Assist in responding to patient portal advice requests within scope.
  • Follow Axis workflows in Epic and ensure all medical documentation is completed promptly and accurately.
  • Assist RNs with translation when needed.
  • Schedule patient appointments, follow‑up visits, and work with internal and external teams to ensure referrals and orders are completed.
  • Conduct patient support visits that might include ear lavages, EKGs, blood pressure checks, and other types of procedures as ordered by providers or permitted under standing orders.
  • Communicate with patients to provide education, instructions, and support regarding their care plan.
  • Assist patients with understanding and navigating their healthcare options and services.
  • Greet patients and agency visitors and direct all individuals to the appropriate location and services. Be courteous, polite and helpful to the public and clients at all times when representing the organization.
  • Assist patients in accurately completing appropriate forms, and document all information according to Axis Community Health protocols.
