The Development Director is responsible for executing and managing assigned components of the council’s fundraising and donor development strategy. Working under the direction of the Director of Development, this position focuses on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors while supporting major council fundraising initiatives. This role collaborates closely with the other development team members, our sales force, volunteers, and council leadership to ensure sustainable financial support for Scouting.
Responsibilities- Manage and execute assigned revenue goals as part of the council’s overall development plan.
- Lead fundraising efforts in designated areas, campaigns, or donor portfolios as assigned.
- Grants/Foundations/Bequests
- Special Events- i.e, Wine Auction, Sporting Clays, Honoree-based events.
- Strategic Planning
- Family Friends of Scouting (FOS)- Support
- Capital Projects
- Planned Giving/Endowment
- Ensure timely and effective donor solicitation and follow-up.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
- Build and manage relationships with key donors, prospects, and community partners.
- Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies to enhance donor retention and giving growth.
- Maintain accurate donor records and reports in council development systems.
- Recruit, train, and support fundraising volunteers, including event committees and campaign leadership.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteer solicitors and ambassadors.
- Strengthen volunteer ownership and accountability for fundraising success.
Campaign & Event Management
- Plan, coordinate, and execute assigned fundraising events and campaigns.
- Manage timelines, budgets, logistics, and volunteer engagement for assigned events.
- Evaluate fundraising performance and implement improvements for future efforts.
- Track progress toward goals and provide regular performance reports.

- Bachelor’s degree or work-related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, development, or related nonprofit work.
- Proven ability to cultivate and solicit donors.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel within the council territory.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet BSA insurance requirements.
Preferred
- Experience in a BSA local council or similar youth-serving nonprofit.
- Experience managing major gifts, annual campaigns, or special events.
- Familiarity with donor management systems (CRM).
- Salary commensurate with experience.

Salary Range: $80,000 to $120,000 a year.
