When safety, security, and patient care intersect, leadership matters. As a Lead Security Officer, you’ll play a critical role in protecting patients, visitors, staff, and facilities while serving as a trusted frontline leader during daily operations and emergency situations.

Based at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Hospital, 5555 W. Las Positas Blvd, Pleasanton, CA , this onsite leadership role combines operational oversight, incident response, investigations, and officer support. You’ll help ensure a safe healthcare environment, coordinate security activities, respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, and provide field leadership when supervisory coverage is needed. Success in this role is enhanced by:

• Experience in security, law enforcement, healthcare security, or emergency response environments
• Strong leadership, sound judgment, and decision-making abilities
• Effective communication, investigation, and report-writing skills
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and navigate complex situations
• Knowledge of security operations, regulatory requirements, and team coordination practices

The Facilities Infrastructure & Safety (FIS) business unit is vital in ensuring the safety, security, and operational integrity of Stanford Health Care facilities while also managing disaster preparedness and complex building systems to foster a secure healthcare environment. FIS is made up of multiple departments aligned in focus:
Environmental Health & Safety, Facility Field Services, Protective Services, Security Services, Office of Emergency Management, Facilities Engineering - Systems, Operational Technology, Facilities Engineering
- Infrastructure, Facilities Services Response Center, and Facilities Administration and Operations.

Stanford Medicine Security Services (SMSS) provides 24/7 support across all Stanford Medicine facilities, ensuring a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The team focuses on proactive risk management, access control, emergency responses, and risk assessments to maintain safety across all locations.

The Lead Security Officer assists in ensuring medical center safety and security during assigned shifts and during emergency situations. Conducts safety inspections, responds to code designated incidents and other emergencies. The Lead Security Officer writes comprehensive reports detailing causes, actions and responses and is also responsible for investigating crimes and other incidents and submits related reports and recommendations.
Performs dispatch duties when necessary. The Lead Security Officers handles sensitive tasks, is expected to lead officers and to display leadership abilities.
